Courteney Cox says she couldn’t recognize how far she’d gone with fillers in her attempts to turn back the clock as a young woman.
The Friends actress, 58, described the vicious cycle she went through to maintain her looks during an appearance on the podcast Gloss Angeles and expressed regret at completing the procedure.
Although Cox initially thought she looked great after getting the fillers, it wasn’t until much later that it became clear to her how “finished” she really looked.
“I thought I was getting older when I was very young,” she began. ‘That’s just too bad, a waste of time; it’s a domino effect it’s like you don’t realize you’re off it a little bit so then you keep doing more because you look normal to yourself and you look in the mirror and say “oh that looks good out,” she said.
“You don’t realize what it looks like to the outside person and just do too many fillers and then have to get them removed thank goodness they’re removable but I think I messed up a lot and now thankfully I can I have that for the most part can turn back, and now I’m actually just older.’
Courteney says she’s incredulous when she finds old photos of herself from her filler era.
“I look at pictures of myself from when I thought I looked good, and I can’t believe it,” she admitted.
She also said, “My publicist wouldn’t let me post this, but I wanted to say, like a before or what I was and what I am, and then the caption would be “oh this is what my friend was talking about,” because when someone talks to you [about fillers] and say “darling, I don’t know”, then you think “what?!” I didn’t do anything here and nothing there” and you don’t realize that probably floated down.’
Courteney has been candid about how her attempts to stay youthful basically failed.
Last year, the actress admitted that she initially tried to fight aging with various “injections” and other treatments, but eventually realized she was going “crazy” and is now gracefully trying to age.
She told the Sunday Times Style magazine, “There was a time when you thought, ‘Oh, I’m changing. I’m looking older.’ And that’s what I tried to pursue [youthfulness] for years.
“And I didn’t realize, oh s***, I actually look really weird with injections and doing things to my face that I would never do now.”
Musing on whether or not to post a photo to Instagram from then compared to now, she added, “I’d say, ‘The day you realize what your friends were talking about.’
“Because people would talk about me, I guess. But there was a time when I thought, “I have to stop. That’s just awesome.”
Although she’s given up on cosmetic procedures, Courteney loves trying new products because she still puts a lot of “intense” pressure on herself to look good.
She said: ‘The research is intense, but I don’t know if it can be more intense than what I put on myself.
“I am a product whore. I’ll try everything.’
The former Friends star also said she “can’t believe” her next milestone birthday will be 60.
She said, ‘Oh God, it’s so hard to even hear or say. I can not believe it. There’s nothing wrong with being 60, I just can’t believe it. Time goes by so fast.
“There’s no question that I’m more grounded. I’ve learned so much in my life — what to like, what to try to do more, and what to let go.”
